It's Time to Take on Chavez
The Venezuelan can be clownish, but can't be dismissed. He is a threat to U.S. security.
By Rick Santorum
Thursday, November 20, 2008
We can no longer afford to ignore a Castro clone who has barrels of petro-dollars at his disposal.  Venezuela's Hugo Chavez has not only incited fervent anti-Americanism throughout Latin America, he has established alliances with our radical, Islamist enemies in the Middle East.  But we are not without tools to undercut the threat he poses.
Doc Daschle
One cook in the health-reform kitchen.
By James C. Capretta
Thursday, November 20, 2008
Tom Daschle, President-elect Obama's designee to be HHS Secretary, is eager to help Obama implement a nationalized health-care plan.  But budgetary reality is likely to force Obama, Daschle, and other statist reformers to choose between two unpleasant options. They could either impose government-enforced cost constraints, and thus implicitly ration care, or they could pay for rapidly rising health-care spending with massive tax increase.
Health Care with a Conscience
By James C. Capretta
Monday, November 17, 2008
Catholic hospitals have long been important providers of American medical care. But as they have increasingly had to contend with secular institutions and regulations, their unique emphasis on values and compassion is being challenged. How can we keep the faith in health care?
Obama Victory
No mandate for cultural revolution
By Colleen Carroll Campbell
Friday, November 14, 2008
It is often said that America is a center-right country when it comes to social issues. But after Sen. Barack Obama's impressive electoral victory, some pundits say we are witnessing a "lurch to the left" on such issues as abortion, gay marriage and judicial activism.
The Christian Story and the World's Story
By George Weigel
Thursday, November 13, 2008
It is no easy business, getting two millennia of Christian history into 283 readable pages. But Professor Robert Bruce Mullin in A Short World History of Christianity has done the job, in a readable style that makes the fruits of his impressive ample scholarship available to a general audience.
What's Next for the GOP
By Peter Wehner
Monday, November 10, 2008
Right now Barack Obama controls the stage and the spotlight; Republicans need to be patient. They don't know when their chance to reassert themselves will emerge. When it does, they need to be ready. Because readiness is all.
EVENT: Public Diplomacy in the Age of Obama: Getting the War of Ideas Right
A Discussion with Jeffrey Gedmin and Kenneth Pollack
Friday, November 21, 2008
As we prepare to enter a new chapter of American foreign policy, please join the Ethics and Public Policy Center and Senior Fellow Rick Santorum for a candid discussion with Jeffrey Gedmin and Kenneth Pollack on the opportunities and challenges inherent in the pursuit of effective U.S. public diplomacy, particularly as it engages the war of ideas within the Muslim world.  Lunch will be provided.
Obama Faces a Choice: Be a Leader or Be Led
By Rick Santorum
Thursday, November 6, 2008
In his 2006 book, The Audacity of Hope, Barack Obama wrote: "I am new enough on the national political scene that I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views."  With that prophecy fulfilled in the fact of his victory, the country now waits to see whether Obama will be led to the left by Congress, or whether he will instead lead in a more moderate direction.
Respect for Life
A voter's choice this election
By James C. Capretta
Wednesday, November 5, 2008
The two major political parties do differ on many issues, but most are amenable to give and take. Not so regarding respect for life. There is no getting around the fact that only one party is firmly committed to cementing abortion as an accepted and irreversible part of life in the United States. There is no more fundamental or important question on the ballot this election than that.

What We Know About Obama
The illusion of pragmatism advances far-left goals, in baby steps.
By Stanley Kurtz
Monday, November 3, 2008
Beneath the feel-good symbolism, Barack Obama is a man of the radical left. Obama is clever and pragmatic, it's true. But his pragmatism is deployed on behalf of radical goals. Obama's heart is, and will remain, with the Far Left.
The Obama Dilemma
By Wilfred M. McClay
Sunday, November 2, 2008
The evangelical left is justified in seeing itself in continuity with the reform history of evangelicalism. But so is the evangelical right, which takes so many of its political bearings from the abortion issue.
